While scholarship programmes supports the stay of individuals abroad, project funding enables cross-border cooperation in scientific projects. Project funding can be applied for as part of bilateral agreements or within multilateral networks. Funding is primarily provided for accommodation and travel expenses. The project funding programmes have different thematic and regional focuses and vary both in terms of project duration and funding amounts.

The OeAD.map is a virtual map which displays registered projects and alumni funded by the OeAD and allows them to be presented in an international context. By using this map, higher education institutions and international organisations can easily find out about OeAD-funded projects from their region. Students and researchers can look for registered OeAD scholarship holders and connect with alumni through the oead.map.
